The shopping list should feel like walking your store, not ours.
So, we’ve been working on that: more aisles with smarter guesses when you add something.
Aisles that match how you shop
Bakery and Frozen are first-class sections now, alongside Produce, Meat and Seafood, Cheese and Dairy, Pantry, and Items.
Your walk order. Every household can reorder aisles from the shopping list (Aisle order). Produce first or pantry last, whatever matches your store and how you walk it. The grouped list and the apps follow that order.
Ingredients, hopefully, land in better buckets
Update from plan still builds the list from your meals. Categorization got, hopefully, sharper:
- Canned and jarred items go to Pantry (so canned tomatoes don’t pretend to be produce).
- Stock and broth, tomato sauce/paste, and similar pantry staples stay where you actually find them.
- Frozen wins when the word is there (frozen broccoli stays Frozen).
- Specialty and plant-based staples (chickpeas, tofu, gochujang, and friends) leave the catch-all Items aisle more often.
Add item, get a suggested aisle
On the web, when you add something to the list, we suggest a category as you type. You can always pick a different aisle. If you leave it alone, we use the suggestion when you save.
Unknown items still land in Items. You can always send us a message to update the category.
Same help on the apps
Mobile can ask the server for a category suggestion, or omit the category when creating an item and let OnRotation try to fill it in. We will be working on the app capability soon.
What you don’t have to do
Nothing auto-rewrites your list, it’s still yours. New and refreshed plan items pick up the better aisles.
What’s next
We’re still thinking about plural-aware matching (mushroom / mushrooms without listing both), pantry “already have”, and custom aisles.
If something still lands in the wrong aisle, change it once, or tell us. The more real grocery names we see, the better the defaults get.
Happy shopping.
