Not every night is a recipe night — and your plan shouldn’t pretend otherwise.
OnRotation now lets you mark Leftovers, Take out, and Free for all right from the meal picker, next to your real meals. They’re first-class plan entries, so the week looks honest at a glance: you still have a plan, just not always a cook.
Why we added this
We’ve all done the spreadsheet version of this: “leftovers?” scribbled next to Wednesday, or a blank that really means takeout. Fake “Takeout” meals in the library felt wrong — they clutter due-for-rotation, shopping, and the meals you actually cook.
So special nights live on the plan, not in your meal pack. Shopping stays meal-only. Mark-as-made and thaw reminders stay meal-only. The calendar still counts the night as planned, so the day doesn’t look empty.
The three kinds
- Leftovers — you’re intentionally eating what you already made.
- Take out — dinner’s coming from somewhere else.
- Free for all — flexible night: fridge raid, cereal, whoever’s hungry decides.
No need to invent a meal or leave the day blank and hope everyone remembers the vibe.
How to use it
- Open your plan and tap Add meal on a day.
- At the top of the picker, choose Leftovers, Free for all, or Take out.
- It lands on the week like any other entry — move it, remove it, plan around it.
Available on web and in the mobile apps.
What’s next
This is v1: clear labels you can plan around and, later, learn from (how often takeout shows up, how often leftovers close the loop). Linking leftovers back to a specific earlier meal is on the roadmap — for now, the important part is naming the night without faking a recipe.
If your week already mixes cook nights with leftovers and pizza delivery, go mark it that way. The plan should match real life.
