Alpha: draft a meal from a recipe URL

By Nick Stalter · August 18, 2026 · product, updates

We’ve all been there: you find a recipe you actually want to cook, drop the link into OnRotation, and then type the ingredients by hand. Again.

That’s the part we’re trying to skip.

Fetch ingredients is in alpha — on the web, Android(sooner), and iOS(soon). Paste a recipe URL, tap the button, and we’ll fill in the name plus a shopping-list-friendly ingredient list. You still review it, tweak anything that looks off, and save like usual. If you are interested in testing the mobile apps, please fill out the closed testing form. The Android app is available to use now(I just have to manually do work to add you), iOS is still in progress but not too far behind.

How to try it

  1. Open My Rotation (or add a meal from this week’s plan).
  2. Paste the recipe URL.
  3. Tap Fetch ingredients.
  4. Check the name and main ingredients, then save.

We don’t create the meal until you hit save. It’s a draft you can edit. You can keep it as as an Off Rotation meal, if you just want to try it out before promoting it to your rotation.

What “shopping-list-friendly” means

We pull the ingredients off the page and strip quantities, units, and prep notes. “1 lb ground beef, diced” becomes ground beef. That way your existing shopping-list rules can still sort items into Produce, Meat, Dairy, and so on. Names we don’t recognize land in Items, same as anything else you type by hand.

It’s alpha — here’s the honest bit

This works best on food blogs that publish a structured recipe (a lot of WordPress recipe plugins do). Some sites won’t have enough for us to read, and we’ll say so rather than guess. We also don’t fill extras, tags, or complexity — those are still yours.

If a fetch comes back empty or a little messy, you can still finish the meal yourself. That’s the point of a draft.

Tell us what breaks

Try a few of the blogs you actually cook from. If a site you love doesn’t work, or the ingredient list needs too much cleanup, we want to hear it.

Thanks for cooking with us.
